Daguerreotype of The Walpurgis, taken in 1853 after daguerreotypist John Laseaux was forced by the gang to make the portrait.
This daguerreotype depicts The Walpurgis in 1853, posing together during the height of the gang’s activity in Ironwood County. The image was taken by daguerreotypist John Laseaux, who was intercepted by the outlaws while traveling through the county and forced to produce the portrait for them. The resulting image became the only surviving visual record of the gang, capturing its members together under the leadership of Isaiah “Graves” Mercer.
